Best poker hands
There are a any number of poker hands from which you are able to claim victory when you compete. The best hand available is a royal flush which is closely followed by a straight flush. Terms for poker
As with most things in life if you want to feel part of the poker community you need to learn the terms. The original cards flipped onto the table are called the flops while any further cards which are flipped upwards are called the turn and the river. The two players to the left of the dealer are named small blind and big blind, while the cards which are dealt out to the participating players are known as hole cards. When you are holding the best hand available it is known as the nuts, if you are a fish it means you play aggressively, although if you are known as a donkey then the label is given due to you constantly losing bets and making silly calls.
Main types of Poker
There are many varieties of poker to play, however the top three types of poker to play are Seven Card Stud, Omaha and Texas Hold'em. Texas Hold'em is a game played between two and ten players whereby each player has two cards dealt to them, which combined with the three on the table allow the player to make their best possible hand. For Omaha each player receives four cards in which they must make their best hand from any two of those cards and the three on the table. Seven Card Stud features players who are given seven cards throughout the game of which three are face down and four are window cards.
Tactical poker considerations
One of the attractions of poker is that anyone can defeat an experienced poker player through luck, aggression or just having a good hand. There are gambling tactics which highlight the difference between being given a reputation of a donkey or fish. By knowing intrinsically some of the tactics required you can go far without your bluff being called. If you realise you have the nuts then it is in your interest to go with an aggressive strategy in order to win a larger amount.
